Curious about what’s happening with the Palos Colorados project? The Moraga Planning Commission is tackling the topic once again at tonight’s meeting.

A study session is scheduled to provide the commission with a brief history of the project and explain the current processing of the tentative map and hillside development permit, as well as discuss potential conditions of approval.

Palos Colorados is a 123-home subdivision slated to be built off Moraga Road just south of Lafayette.

The project has a long and controversial history.

A 1999 lawsuit settlement scaled back the development, and promised some revenues from the planned golf course to Lafayette and Moraga. But developers dropped the golf course last year after running into difficulty getting federal and state approvals for the course.

Developers promised $14 million to Moraga to compensate for the lost benefits of the course. Lafayette then sued both Moraga and the developer, and the developer settled in February by agreeing to give the two communities an extra $5 million to split.

The development will include public access to four miles of trails, and 386 acres of open space.
